Your Bajaj RE will last longer with these maintenance tips

by | Jan 29, 2020 | News

A clean tricycle makes a happy driver. Whether you are using your Bajaj RE for family service, business needs, or your neighborhood’s “pampasada”, cleanliness should be your best practice.

If you want to extend the life of your Bajaj RE, it is a must to make sure that your three-wheeler is 100% maintained.

Here are some effective maintenance tips that can help you start:

What to do before?

Hold up. We’re not going to get all splashed up yet. Before you ready all the buckets and soap, make sure that your tricycle is all cooled down. This will decrease the possibility of damaging your engine.

If you subject your engines to sudden changes in temperature, it will be a disaster. Never wash your Bajaj RE after a long ride. Wait until the engine and exhaust system cool off.

So, before you carry on with the cleaning, it’s best to gather the cleaning materials you’ll be needing. Here’s a list to guide you:

Essentials:
1. Bucket
2. Soap or liquid detergent
3. A toothbrush,
4. A brush for wheel cleaning
5. Tire cleaner
6. Microfiber rags,
7. cotton sponges

Optional:
8. Chamois for drying.
9. Bug and tar remover
10. Degreaser and/or engine cleaner
11. Paint polis
12. Metal polish

What to do when cleaning?

1. Use warm water and avoid using solvents
When cleaning your Bajaj RE, use a cloth moistened with warm water. Warm water makes cleaning easier. This produces lots of suds to lift the grease from your tricycle. A mild commercial detergent is advisable for removing stubborn dirt.

And, if you want to preserve the paint (who wouldn’t?), avoid using solvents as much as possible. Harsh detergents or chemical solvents can also damage your Bajaj Re’s metal and plastic. Don’t use detergents used for commercial laundry. Choose mild soap if possible. The best example is hand or dishwashing soap. It only contains surfactants that dissolve dirt and grease.

2. Be gentle on your Bajaj RE
For stains, you can use a sponge or a soft toothbrush but never use hard brushes or sharp-edged objects. You can use toothbrushes to reach narrow spaces inside your vehicle.

3. Clean your tires
You can use a garden hose or a brush to remove the mud from your tires. After this, you can now use wheel cleaners to wash them up. Make sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions. A soap and water solution can also do the trick for you.

4. Go against bugs and tar!
You can use commercial bug and tar removers for stubborn bugs and grime. Insects contain specific acids that can destroy your paint finish. Make sure to apply bug or tar removers before they make a lasting impression on your Bajaj. After the grime has loosened, you can use a soft sponge or cloth to wipe it away.

5. Rinse it
Make sure to rinse your Bajaj to remove loose dirt. Also, avoid using high-pressure water as this may also cause damage to your vehicle.

6. Use clean cloths only
Choose a good clean cloth that can pick up more dirt and residue. There are cloths made up of slippery materials and will not be able to scrub away the dirt. Microfibre rags are the best choice of cloth.

7. Always dry up your tricycle after washing
Make sure to rinse off your Bajaj RE until no soap remains. Afterward, you can use a chamois or a microfiber cloth drying. This will free up your Bajaj from moisture to avoid rusting.

What to do after?

8. Buff your seats
Apply an approved leather or vinyl protectant. This prevents the material from fading away or cracking over time. You can buy protectants for vinyl and leather at any auto or motorcycle supply store. Make sure that the outer coat is not damaged by scratching or some other way.

9. Apply or spray bearing protectant
Your bearings are important parts of your tricycle. Make sure to find ways to protect them. A dedicated protective spray can help you do this. These types of sprays can coat your bearings and keep moisture or dirt away. Make sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

10. Lubricate your bike
A motor expert should know this. Make sure that your bike is well lubricated to avoid damages. Use oil and brake fluid to lubricate your Bajaj RE.

11. Look after your Bajaj RE
Aftercare is always the best way to do it. It is a good idea to plan routine maintenance or service. Take your Bajaj RE to any accredited service center. That way, you can have it checked. This can cause you the least amount of inconvenience.
There are at least 400 service shops spread across Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. Contact your local dealer to know more about this.
