Childproofing your appliances

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]We love our kids, that’s true. But it can be so hard to keep them away from things like washing machines, dryers, refrigerators, and ovens. Children playing with or on appliances will not only damage your appliances, it also puts your kids at risk for injuries or burns. That’s why you should consider childproofing your appliances.

Protect your kids by childproofing your appliances

Most appliances these days now come with child safety features. On many washers, dishwashers, and dryers, and other appliances now come with a child lock feature. When activated, it will lock the control panel so that kids won’t be able to operate it on their own.

Ovens, in particular, can be the most dangerous appliances that you need to protect children from. Children could get hands trapped in closing doors or even burn themselves if they manage to turn it on. This also opens risks for fire, which can put everyone in danger.

Aside from using child locks and safety devices, adults at home should also do their part in teaching and reminding children about the dangers of playing with the oven and other appliances.

Protect your appliances

Kids love playing on appliances and using them as a jungle gym. If your appliances aren’t working or closing properly, it very likely means that your kids have been playing there. Sometimes kids would sit on oven or dishwasher doors, or put things and even their pets into dryers and washing machines.

Some adventurous climbers would jump off your appliances. Kids, in an effort to reach snacks, would also climb on refrigerator shelves and drawers. This can result to broken refrigerator hinges or door handles as well.

Discourage your children from doing this and apply child-lock features such as door clips, rope buckles, or even padlocks to keep the refrigerator safe. If you want them to have access to the refrigerator for snacks, put the kids’ snack items on the lower parts of the refrigerator, close to the front.

Childproofing your appliances can keep a lot of worries off your mind. You don’t have to worry about repairs or your children getting hurt.
