EMCOR gives back through Community Projects

by | Sep 1, 2021 | News

EMCOR has always been active in  finding ways to give back to the community and be there  where help is needed. Whether by building school classrooms, providing Tricycles with their Livelihood Program, or by donating relief goods to typhoon victims, EMCOR is always there to lend a helping hand. Here are some of the highlights over the last decade that have stood out amongst the many good deeds.

In aid to address the problem of classroom shortages within Philippine public schools, the Jesus V. Del Rosario Foundation (JVRF) funded the construction of multiple school buildings with an emphasis on depressed areas. This all began originally in 2011 when JVRF guaranteed the construction of new school buildings in Cagayan de Oro City and Iligan City that had been destroyed by the Tropical Storm known as Typhoon Sendong. This initial project was carried out to completion in partnership with the Department of Education and the Aklat, Gabay, Aruga Tungo sa Pag-Angat at Pag-Asa (AGAAP) Foundation. EMCOR and JVRF believe that every child deserves the right to education in a suitable environment, and this initiative helps to make it a reality for many children across the country.

In 2018, the Government took firm action to force the rehabilitation of Boracay, a Tourism Mecca for the Philippines; this started a six-month closure of Boracay in Malay, Aklan, from April to October 2018. During this time, it allowed the region to undergo rehabilitation efforts to the area’s beaches and general location. As a side effect, the island’s tourism industry was suddenly gone for that period, and unfortunately, it deprived locals of their livelihood. In an effort to alleviate the suffering of the local victims, JVRF, with the help of Emcor Inc. and several local government units, distributed relief bags to 2,000 individuals on June 8, 2018. These efforts went on to help motivate others to assist as well as help the locals during those difficult times.

Many will remember the devastation Typhoon Yolanda had caused (internationally referred to as Haiyan) when it bore its destructive power down on the Philippines in November 2013. Over 6,000 innocent lives were lost during the devastating tropical storm. Billions of pesos worth of properties were damaged, leaving people without homes and jobs overnight. After this life-changing moment in the country, the Negrense Volunteers for Change Foundation, Inc (NVC) initiated a boat donation drive called “Peter’s Project” to help affected fishermen get back on their livelihood. The JVR Foundation, via NVC, donated ten motorized fishing boats, which were fitted out with fishing nets and other fishing equipment. Five of these boats were distributed to fisherfolks in Bantayan Island of Cebu, while the other five boats were sent to the Bicol region. With this hand in hand initiative, it helped our country recover from one of the most terrible moments in our history.

Continuing its efforts to remain true to its mission of providing livelihood opportunities to Filipinos, the JVR Foundation offered short-term and medium-term programs such as the TricyKab (Tricycle Kabuhayan) Livelihood Program. When introduced on December 11, 2018, 27 Bajaj RE tricycles (distributed exclusively by JVR’s Emcor and Tri-Motors) were delivered to driver-beneficiaries throughout Mandaue in Cebu, and the recipients were given the option to pay for the tri-wheeler units over three years. EMCOR and the foundation hope to replicate the success of this program in other parts of the country, helping more families.

EMCOR, with the assistance of the Jesus V. Del Rosario Foundation (JVRF),  has been and always will be there for the Philippines and its people to give back to the community in ways that will benefit many.
