Tips for Picking a Laptop for School

by | Jun 6, 2018 | News

These days, laptops are more of a necessity than a luxury for college students. EMCOR has a wide selection available if you need one. However, you have to put into consideration that each student would have different needs. So choosing the right laptop to fit with those needs is important.

Here are some tips for picking a laptop for school:

Go Portable

When used for studying or working on a project, the laptop you choose should be one that you can easily bring in the campus. Find one that is around 11-14 inches in screen size. If you’re going to be carrying it around in your backpack, finding a light one is also recommended. Choose a laptop that weighs less than 4 pounds or 2 kilograms.

Choose durability

You need a laptop that would last you all four years of your college degree or longer. Of course, it will be best if your laptop remains fully-functional through its lifetime. One thing students would appreciate when picking a laptop? Spill-resistant keyboards! Students often drink coffee or eat their meals while doing schoolwork. This will keep accidents from causing too much damage. Finally, MIL-SPEC tested devices ensure durability even in extreme conditions.

Battery Life

You need a laptop that can last through a day of classes without charging. Choose a laptop that has at least 6+ hours battery life, but ideally one that has 8 or more hours of juice.

Specs

Picking a laptop with Intel Core m or Intel Core i processors would ensure optimum performance. Other minimum specs to look out for are 8GB of RAM, 256GB SSD, and 802.11ac Wi-Fi. If you’re opting for a Chromebook, you can have less.

Operating System

Chromebooks are good for kids. These are laptops that run on Google’s Chrome OS and are designed to primarily operate with apps connected to the internet. It has everything basic that a student would need to write papers and create presentations. Windows is best for productivity while Design or Art students might benefit from macOS or higher-level Windows.
