Three things to consider when buying a microwave Microwaves are very useful in our fast-paced lives. It allows us to quickly reheat our meals, cook microwavable food, or even cook fun food items like mug cakes at a convenient rate. Most homes have microwaves and with technology developing fast, it might be time to consider buying a new one. That being said, choosing a microwave that is perfect for your needs boils down to three different factors. Size The right size of microwave will meet your food needs and fit in the space you have for it. Instead of finding a space for your microwave after you buy it, plan ahead and decide on where you can put a microwave. Based on the size of this space, you can choose a microwave of the right size. Some are as small as 10x18x14 while bigger ones are around 14x24x20 in inches. Microwaves are also classified by their inner capacity, which is measured in cubic feet. Compact microwaves have under 1 cubic foot in capacity, 1-1.5 for midsize, 1.6-2 for full-size, and more than 2 cubic feet for extra-large microwaves. If you’re not sure about the size, bring a container you would typically use in a microwave while shopping. Wattage Microwave wattage refers to its power. The higher the wattage, the faster and more evenly your food will be heated. However, microwaves with higher wattage also tend to be more expensive. Most microwaves have a wattage between 600 and 1,200. Features Basic microwave features include cook time, defrost, power level, and timer. These can be set with knobs or a touch panel and are very easy to use. Most microwaves also have a rotating carousel to help your food heat more evenly. Some microwaves have presets for food such as popcorn, baked potatoes, pizza, drinks, frozen dinners, and the reheat option. Some higher end options include broil, convection, and invertion technology. Your ideal microwave depends on your needs as a homeowner and consumer.
