When you purchase appliances, the sales representative will tell you about the warranty from either the store or the manufacturer. Some manufacturers sell an extended warranty on top of the one you get from your purchase as well.

Simply, warranty is like insurance for your appliances. It would be great if you won’t need it, but it would be nice to have if you do. Warranties vary in length. Store warranties for small accessories would be one or two weeks while appliances and gadgets would have at least a year from the manufacturer themselves.

Warranty Basics

To avail of the warranty, the basic requirements are the product in its original packaging and the dated official receipt. Products that have been tampered with or have been brought to unauthorized repair centers may not be eligible for warranty.

Some companies require consumers to register their products through a warranty card that comes in every box. You fill in the information needed and send it to the manufacturer. However, some experts warn that providing information beyond your name and address can be a way for companies to collect valuable information from consumers.

There are express and implied warranties. Express warranties state the exact terms and expiration date of the warranty. Implied warranties have a generic time frame. In the Philippines, manufacturers are required by law to have a minimum time frame of six months

Consumers have three basic rights called the 3Rs: Right to Repair, Right to seek Replacement, and Right to Refund. These are all covered by basic warranties whenever you make a purchase.
